This is going to be a long offseason for the New England Patriots. It seems like fans are constantly being reminded that they are no longer the kings of the NFL. Now they are the laughing stock of the league.

It all began with Matthew Stafford saying that he wanted to go to any team but the Patriots. He explicitly asked the Lions not to trade him according to Tom E. Curran.

It doesn’t get much worse than that. A few seasons ago, you would call a player insane for making such a request. Now that is just the state of the organization.

The only thing that Patriots fans could hold on to was maybe Stafford just hated Matt Patricia that much. The former Lions coach rejoined New England’s staff this offseason in hopes of reviving his coaching career.

After how poorly Patricia’s Lions tenure was, it’s hard to blame Stafford for being against a reunion.

Danny Amendola latest player to diss Bill Belichick and the Patriots.

But that’s not all folks. The negativity continued on Monday when Danny Amendola went all-in on Bill Belichick. The former Patriots wideout didn’t hold back when talking about the head coach.

"“When you see ‘Patriot Way’ in the dictionary, it’s going to have Tom Brady’s pic next to it. None of those coaches threw any passes. None of those coaches caught any passes. None of those coaches made any tackles. They got guys in the right position because they watch a lot of film and they spend all their time at the facility. But Tom Brady is the Patriot Way, and that’s the reason why Tom Brady’s in the Super Bowl right now and the Patriots aren’t.”"

That seems to be a direct shot at Belichick. Amendola is saying that he doesn’t deserve the credit, Brady does.

But this could indicate just how much of a struggle it could be for the Patriots in the offseason. It looks like players won’t want to play for Belichick now that Brady is gone.

The Patriot Way is known for not being fun and being an absolute grind for players. It’s one thing if you have the greatest quarterback of all time, but now that he is gone, it will take a lot to get players to buy-in.

New England will likely have to rely on the draft in order to acquire talent. They need to start getting younger and starting the rebuild. It might sting for a few years, but it’s the only way for the Pats to become a contender again.

So get ready Patriots fans, it’s going to be a long offseason. One that is unlikely to involve any significant moves beside the likely selection of a new quarterback. The 2021 regular season can’t come soon enough.
