The Boston Celtics were yet another team to fall short against the blazing hot Utah Jazz. This isn’t a problem, but the play of Kemba Walker is. The Celtics honestly need to consider moving on from the point guard.

2021 has been an awful year for Walker. He has continued to deal with knee issues and since returning has frankly looked awful. The Walker that the Celtics acquired in the first place seems long gone.

More from Chowder and Champions

Walker’s first season with the Celtics went rather well. He averaged 20 points along with 4.8 assists. Kemba was even named to the All-Star team.

But then later in the season, Walker got injured and since then everything has gone downhill. So now Danny Ainge and the rest of the front office have to wonder if it’s time to move on from the point guard.

Why now is time for the Celtics to move on from Kemba Walker.

Things aren’t going to get better for Walker. With his knee problems, he is headed for a sharp decline. Celtics fans have already seen that in 2021.

In 10 games Walker has only averaged 15 points and is shooting under 35 percent from the field. He has hurt the Celtics more than he has helped them.

There’s also the fact that the Celtics have already said that Walker likely won’t play any back to back’s this season. They are forced to make accommodations for Walker just to simply hope that he will last an entire season.

Celtics fans have already had to deal with this in regards to Gordon Hayward. He never became the player that he was with the Jazz. It’s painful to say it, but Walker won’t be the player that he was in 2019.

Part of this is Boston’s fault. They have a horrible history when it comes to handling knee injuries. Still, they have to realize that he is headed in the wrong direction.

Then finally there is arguably the most important reason which is Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

These two players are the future of the Celtics. If the organization is going to win a championship it will mainly be because of these players.

Frankly, Tatum and Brown are being held back by Walker. He is a hindrance to the team and may end up stunting the growth of those two players. All Boston needs is a player that allows Tatum and Brown to flourish. That shouldn’t be hard to find.

Boston also has plenty of money to spend with the TPE. This is the perfect time to move on from the point guard.

So it’s a tough admission to come to, but the Celtics need to realize that it’s time to move on from Kemba Walker.
