Boston Celtics: Why future of team is in jeopardy
By Sam Minton
Things haven’t been great for the Boston Celtics as of late. Kemba Walker is struggling on the court and now Jaylen Brown is having knee issues. Is the franchise’s future in jeopardy?
For most of 2021 Brown has been dominating 2021. He was stunning fans and playing so well that he was even getting some MVP love.

Brown is averaging 26.7 points and 5.6 rebounds a game. Celtics fans couldn’t ask for more from him.
Now Brown was forced to miss some time due to knee issues. Luckily he has returned to the court but not without getting Celtics fans worried.
After Boston lost, Brown mentioned how his knee was acting up throughout the game. Maybe playing him over 35 minutes was a mistake.
But Celtics fans got even more reasons to be nervous after Danny Ainge’s interview with Toucher and Rich on 98.5 the Sports Hub. Brown’s knee issues seem to be chronic.
"“We’re concerned. Jaylen has tendonitis in his [left] knee,” Ainge told the morning show. “We’re concerned about it. We’re doing everything we can. Giving him the two days rest isn’t going to cure it, it’s just going to lighten the load.”"
Why the future of the Boston Celtics in jeopardy.
This is an issue that should have C’s fans nervous. It rings rather similar to the Kemba Walker situation.
It seems as though the Celtics are just horrible at handling knee injuries. It’s hard to believe that they will handle this situation the right way.
Walker is looking rather poor on the court right now. That likely won’t happen to Brown, but the Celtics will be affected.
There isn’t exactly a cure for tendonitis. The Celtics will simply have to rest Brown similar to what they are doing with Walker.
This will hurt the Celtics simply because he isn’t on the court, but this could also adversely affect Jayson Tatum. There will be a ton of pressure on Tatum seeing that we could see both Walker and Brown on the sidelines due to load management.
Brown was looked at to be one of the key players for the Celtics. He was supposed to help lead them to a championship. Now, will he be able to do that?
The C’s continue to hitch their horse to players who have chronic injury issues. The team deserves some criticism.
In the short term Boston should be able to survive. It’s not like the team is just going to fall apart because they have to rest Brown for a game or two.
But looking ahead it could get worse. Brown will end up needing more and more rest. In a few years, Boston might need to even move on from Brown.
The long-term stability of the C’s seems to have been shaken. Now the pressure is solely put on Tatum.
So while the Celtics still could end up winning a championship in 2021, the long term future of the organization is in jeopardy.
