When it comes to the Boston Celtics this season, Jayson Tatum has been the most reliable player on the team.

Since returning from a bout with COVID-19 he has continued to show that he is one of the best young players in the NBA today, but Tatum is still battling some side effects from the coronavirus.

More from Chowder and Champions

We all have seen how COVID-19 can affect people. Besides the fact that nearly 500,000 people have died from COVID-19 in the United States, it can also leave people with breathing issues which can affect athletes a ton.

Boston sports fans are all too familiar with this. We saw starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez literally be crippled by COVID-19. He missed the entire 2020 season and will just be making his return this year.

Now another Boston star is saying that they are dealing with some effects after dealing with COVID-19 and it’s one of the biggest stars in the area.

Tatum is having some issues that are affecting him on the court.

To his credit, Tatum is still having an amazing season. He is averaging 25 points and seven rebounds a game.

What also stands out is that Tatum is becoming a much better perimeter shooter which is exactly what he needs to do if he wants to be a star in the NBA.

Why Boston Celtics fans should be nervous about Jayson Tatum still dealing with the effects of COVID-19.

Now Tatum mentions that he is improving, but the fact that he is still dealing with breathing problems is concerning. He shouldn’t be having conditioning problems at his age.

Tatum is only 22 years old. He shouldn’t have problems going up and down the court. If this is how he is feeling now it seems like things could only get worse.

The future of the Celtics is Tatum. If he is going to have health problems that could affect just how well Boston performs.

The C’s have championship aspirations with how the roster is currently constructed, but in order to reach those goals, they need a healthy Tatum.

Tatum is a player that can reach that next level. He can take over games and just dominate the opposition.

Sports fans are going to see the long-term ramifications of continuing to play during a pandemic. Some of their favorite players could have some long-term health issues.

So it seems like Tatum still has some battle wounds from his bout with COVID-19. With it being more than a month since he tested positive, it wouldn’t be surprising if these issues persist and that could mess with the high goals that Danny Ainge and Celtics fans have for the team.

Celtics fans should definitley be nervous about Tatum and his long-term health.
