New England Patriots: Cam Newton deserves respect
By Sam Minton
It seems as though after a rough season with the New England Patriots in 2020, everyone wants to take a shot at Cam Newton. Even high schoolers are calling the QB out, but that just serves as an opportunity to remind people of Newton’s accomplishments.
On Sunday a video went viral of a high school player chirping Newton. Apparently being an NFL quarterback is simply not good enough for some people.

It’s honestly stunning that someone could say this to a guy like Newton. He is literally helping out for his youth football team. Maybe instead of trying to look cool, you can ask Newton for tips about how to improve your game.
Newton had one bad season and apparently high school players are better than him. Again, apparently, throwing for over 2,500 yards and rushing for 592 yards and 12 touchdowns puts you on the same level as your average high school football player.
Why Cam Newton deserves respect from football fans and Patriots fans alike.
Now looking at Newton’s career as a whole, he is a legend of the game. At Auburn, Newton showed his skill and was the first overall draft pick in 2010 after winning the Heisman in the same year.
In the NFL he continued to revolutionize the position. He was able to break off insane runs and bulldoze over defenders. Newton also had a great arm and was leading the Panthers to some great things.
In 2015, Newton was unstoppable. He threw for nearly 4,000 yards and 35 touchdowns while also rushing for over 600 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Newton and Carolina made it all the way to the Super Bowl that year but were unable to defeat Peyton Manning and the Broncos.
Still, Newton has multiple Pro Bowl appearances along with an MVP Award to his name. He really has done it all.
So Newton deserves to be respected. It might surprise some younger readers but Newton will get a gold jacket one day. He changed what it meant to be a QB in the NFL.
Even Patriots fans should be appreciative of what he did in 2020. He did the best that he could with the hand that he was dealt. Other QB’s would have done much worse than Newton did.
So let’s stop acting like Newton is some no-name player. He has etched his name in NFL history and all his accomplishments should not be forgotten whether it be in college or in the pros.
