There is no doubt that if the Patriots want to win games, it will most likely be due to their defense instead of their offense. Long gone are the days of putting up 50 points and throwing for 400 yards. That’s why the signing of Yannick Ngakoue would be great for New England.
The Patriots have a solid defensive line already with players like Chase Winovich on the roster but after the 2020 season, New England’s defense still needs some work.

Heading into free agency, New England has a boatload of cap space. After trading Marcus Cannon, the Patriots have around $65 million to spend. This means that Ngakoue is definitley within New England’s price range.
After spending the first four years of his career with the Jaguars, Ngakoue played for both the Vikings and the Ravens in 2020. The defensive end was able to rack up 23 tackles and eight sacks throughout the season.
Now Ngakoue is a free agent who seems like a perfect fit for New England.
Why the Patriots should sign Yannick Ngakoue.
One of the main things that sticks out with Ngakoue is that he is still rather young. At the start of the season, he will be 26 years old. With New England looking to get younger, Ngakoue definitley fits the bill.
The Patriots also have the capital to keep Ngakoue in New England for a while. It wouldn’t be surprising if Ngakoue got a three or four year deal.
Also if Ngakoue was on the Patriots roster last season, he would have been the leading sack getter by a country mile. Chase Winovich lead the team with a measly 5.5 sacks.
Ngakoue seems like a perfect replacement for Deatrich Wise who is an unrestricted free agent. While New England could re-sign him, Ngakoue seems like a much better option who could produce right away.
Wise is still young with him being 27 when the season starts, but it wouldn’t be too surprising if he chases a massive payday that he likely wouldn’t receive in New England. With the Patriots getting rid of Cannon it seems as though they want to change up the roster and bring in some fresh faces.
So Yannick Ngakoue is a perfect option for New England in 2021. He would be a great addition to the defensive line and would instantly change up the Patriots defense. All New England needs to do is pull the trigger and they will add a great player to their roster.
We all know that defense wins championships, but it also simply wins games. With New England’s offense getting worse and worse every passing moment, the Patriots need to do all they can to bolster the defense. Bringing in Ngakoue is a no brainer.
