Boston Celtics: Evan Fournier making an impact
By Sam Minton
When the Boston Celtics acquired Evan Fournier it seemed like a good move but just how much of an impact could the shooter have? So far he has done a lot to help Boston win games.
Fournier was having another great season for the Magic prior to being traded. He was averaging nearly 20 points a game along with a 46 percent field goal percentage.

At the trade deadline, Danny Ainge said that he wanted to add a shooter with size. With Fournier, it’s safe to say that Boston got that.
Fournier’s career in Boston didn’t get off to the best start going 0-10 in his first game, but since then he has been great. In his last two games, he has tallied 40 points while shooting 13-22 from the field.
So far Fournier has been a great addition that has increased Boston’s depth. He is a scorer who can come off the bench and make an impact quickly.
It’s the type of acquisition that Boston needed. If they are going to compete Boston needs to be a much deeper team. They can’t just rely on Jayson Tatum.
Is Evan Fournier’s impact enough to make the Boston Celtics contenders?
The problem for the Celtics is that Fournier was the only significant move that they made. If he was paired with the acquisition of a significant piece, Boston would be able to compete for a championship and maybe even lift an 18th banner.
But thinking that Fournier will help the Celtics win a championship is wrong. This team still needs more if they want to be one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.
So for the 2021 season, Fournier’s acquisition seems futile. It might help them win one or two extra games, but Boston won’t go far in the playoffs. Especially when they will have to go up against teams like the Bucks or the 76ers. These teams have stars that can take over games and win playoff series.
With how inconsistent Boston has been, it’s hard to say that they have one of these guys. Tatum is having another great season, but he is still far away from being a player like Giannis Antetokounmpo.
So while Fournier is showing exactly what he can do to help the Celtics, it isn’t enough. Once again it seems like the Boston Celtics season will end in disappointment. That will continue to be the case until Ainge makes a big move to drastically improve the team.
