Here is one bold prediction for New England Patriots free agent signing Matt Judon. The former two-time Pro Bowler looked fantastic during preseason. He’ll be an absolutely terrific signing for the Pats.

Judon signed early in free agency with New England on a four year deal worth a whopping $56 million. $32 million of his contract is guaranteed.

Judon will be their best free-agent signing this season, maybe one of their very best ever, and quite likely will be the New England Patriots’ best defensive player in 2021.

If that’s not enough hyperbole, how about this; Judon has already been tipped as a possible All-Pro caliber player, and even as a possible NFL Defensive Player of the Year candidate. The best of the best.

To say expectations are high for the former Baltimore Ravens edge rusher, and have become even higher after seeing him in the red, white, blue, and silver of the Patriots, would be a gross understatement.

How Matt Judon will electrify the New England Patriots defense

Matt Judon was not really the most hyped player prior to his signing early in the free agency period by New England. Yet, he was actually one of the very best players available, at any position.

Judon is a two-time Pro-Bowler formerly of the Baltimore Ravens, a team that knows how to draft and knows how to build a roster.

Their former general manager, Ozzie Newsome, was one of the all-time best. Year-after-year Ozzie delivered the goods to fuel the Ravens’ football teams.

Judon was an under-the-radar type player who was excellent for the Ravens, yet toiled somewhat in obscurity for whatever reasons there may have been.

That may have been because he was in a small media market. So much the better for the New England Patriots and Patriot Nation. Judon is just a terrific player. What a signing by head coach Bill Belichick.

Matt Judon exploded onto the stage in his first pre-season appearance for New England against the Washington Football Team. He almost single-handedly demolished their offense in his limited action.

In that game early on, Judon had a quarterback hit, a tackle for loss, and a pass breakup. That’s a good day’s work for mortal players. For Judon, it came in three consecutive plays!

Anyone who saw that game and those efforts had to be saying, WOW! And if you are a New England Patriot fan, you had to be saying, “This guy is our player! Yes!”

To paraphrase what was said in the now-dated movie, Ghostbusters, “he has the tools, and he has the talent.” That line fits Matt Judon to a T.

Adding Judon to the Patriots’ second-level would have been a home run. Getting back Dont’a Hightower from opt-out and Kyle Van Noy from the Miami Dolphins makes this a surefire grand slammer.

In his limited appearances in the present, Judon made it abundantly clear that he is a force and that he will be a huge factor in the New England Patriots defense in 2021.

Judon had an off-year (for him) in the COVID-19-devastated 2020 season. He lodged six sacks and 21 quarterback hits to accompany 50 tackles. In the more normal previous year, 2019, he notched 9.5 sacks, 54 tackles, and a whopping 33 quarterback hits.

Expect that type of production this season from Judon, or even better. He’s poised for a monster year, and I think he could explode onto the Foxborough scene like some Fourth of July fireworks!

So let’s proceed to get more specific with a prediction about what type of season Matt Judon will have in 2021. Generally, as previously noted, it will be terrific.

But specifically, the prediction here is 10 sacks, 35 quarterback hits, and 60 overall tackles for this extremely talented and motivated edge player. That’s a haul, folks. And he may do better than that!

And keep this in mind; Matt Judon also has an infectious personality. He is a leader by example and he inspires his teammates because he is so supportive of them. What a superb addition!

The final prediction in this space is this; Matt Judon will be a Pro-Bowler and an All-Pro for the New England Patriots in 2021. It just doesn’t get much better than that.
