Patriots: Why return of Matt Patricia is so important

It seems as though Matt Patricia has realized that things aren’t so easy once you leave the New England Patriots. Being a head coach is quite a difficult job, but Patricia will be returning to New England in 2021.

On Friday, the Boston Globe reported that Patricia was coming back to the Patriots. There isn’t an exact specification of what he will do, but it appears that he will have many roles.

Now there is no doubt that Patricia was awful in Detroit. It seems like it will be a while before he is a head coach again.

There were rumors that he failed to captivate the respect of the locker room by trying to instill the Patriot Way in the Lions organization.

Seeing that the Lions never got above .500 with Patricia leading the way, his first stint as a coach can only be described as a failure.

Why Matt Patricia’s return is so important for the New England Patriots.

Now even though Patricia struggled mightily in Detroit, Patriots fans should be excited about the return of Patricia. He should be able to do some great things.

Patricia was a great defensive coordinator in New England. He was a major part of some great defenses. Pats fans were really sad to see Patricia head to Detroit due to how successful he was in New England.

Heading into 2021, the Patriots will need some quality coaching. With New England needing to cultivate young talent, coaching will be even more important. Bill Belichick proved this in 2020.

If it wasn’t for Belichick’s coaching, the Patriots could have been one of the worst teams in the NFL. The fact that New England went 7-9 shows how talented Belichick is.

Also, the Patriots will be much more reliant on their defense moving forward. New England’s passing game is nonexistent. No matter who is the quarterback in 2021, this will likely still be the case.

New England’s defense will need to be great each and every week. Having a coach like Patricia would help ensure that this is able to happen. He also might be able to create some stars like Malcolm Butler.

There is also the chance that Patricia becomes a head coach again. Patriots fans don’t want to hear it, but Belichick will likely retire rather soon. Bringing back Patricia could ensure that they have someone in-house who can take over the reins.

So Patricia coming back might seem like a mediocre move, but it could help the Patriots accelerate their rebuild. New England might be back on top sooner than we all expected.
