The New England Patriots seem to be getting worse by the minute. After being dissed by Matthew Stafford, their options at QB are now limited.

Is it time for New England to consider Ryan Fitzpatrick? Fitz was on the Pat McAfee Show and said that he can’t exactly be as picky as Stafford.

So should the Patriots look at Fitzpatrick?

No.

Why Ryan Fitzpatrick would be a waste of money for Patriots.

It might surprise some fans to learn that Fitzpatrick is actually rather old. Fitz will be 39 years old next season. He doesn’t have a lot of football left in him.

Last season Fitzpatrick threw for 2,091 yards, 13 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. It seems like his days as a starter are behind him.

But don’t worry, there’s plenty of more reasons to be against the signing of Fitzpatrick.

New England has a great opportunity this offseason. They can select their QB of the future in the 2021 NFL Draft.

After the departure of Tom Brady and a disappointing 2020 season, the Patriots are in rebuilding mode. The days of being a contender are over for now.

The first step in getting back to the top is finding your quarterback of the future. With the bevy of prospects in the draft, that is what New England should be focused on.

Right now the likely scenario seems to be the selection of Mac Jones. The Alabama QB has been linked to the Pats for a while now and it almost seems guaranteed that he is selected by Bill Belichick.

But there are still plenty of more prospects. New England could move up in the draft to acquire someone like Zach Wilson or Trey Lance. These two guys could change the trajectory of the organization.

So the Patriots shouldn’t be looking at NFL players to solve their problems. Jimmy Garoppolo, Carson Wentz, or Derek Carr are not going to make New England contenders in 2021.

The Pats need to get younger and cultivate a lot of young talent. This will make New England’s rebuild go by much faster.

New England hasn’t exactly had the best luck when drafting, but fans need to have faith in Belichick and his staff. Drafting a QB in the first round is necessary if the Patriots want to become a contender sooner rather than later.

So Fitzpatrick might make a splash in New England (even though that’s unlikely), but he will do more harm to the organization than good.
