Boston Celtics rumors: Can Paul George and Gordon Hayward play together?
With talks of both Paul George and Gordon Hayward possibly coming to the Boston Celtics, let’s speculate.
It’s rumor season! We’re officially a few days away from free agency, and one of the hottest rumors is Paul George AND Gordon Hayward to the Boston Celtics. If the cap wasn’t at $99 million (thanks Cavaliers and Warriors) I’d be all in. The idea is exciting, but it seems like an either/or option rather than getting both.
Let’s just say the Celtics get both guys, it’s fun to think about isn’t it?
I don’t think you have a “well they both play the same position” problem. Brad Stevens‘ system is clearly position-less, and those are two guys who can play multiple positions on the floor. Paul George is a stronger, bigger guy than Gordon Hayward. You can play him at the four, Hayward at the three and keep Bradley at the two if he’s still on the roster.

If Avery Bradley and Marcus Smart are involved in some type of trade, I’m open to starting Jaylen Brown at the shooting guard spot. It could be really good for his development. Also, he’s shown he’s very open to taking on any challenge. I mean, Isaiah would have more space to work with. All of those guys space the floor. Amir Johnson could space the floor, but he’s was just so slow. Now, you’d have more athletic guys flying all over the floor.
Paul George has previously stated he’d like to play with both Gordon Hayward and Isaiah Thomas.
Wyc Grousbeck said back in February he thinks the Celtics are roughly two big pieces away from really competing for a title. Are those two pieces Hayward and George? Possibly.
I’m honestly excited to see Brad Stevens’ system with actual superstars in place. I think if he has the right tools, he has the system and smarts to put everything together.

So don’t worry about how George and Hayward can fit together on the court. Position-less basketball is what the Boston Celtics have bought into, and it’s a heck of a lot of fun to watch.
