New England Patriots: 3 reasons team should give Colin Kaepernick a shot
By Sam Minton
The New England Patriots don’t have a good backup behind Tom Brady. With Colin Kaepernick being linked to the team, maybe that will change.
There never seems to be a dull day in New England. The New England Patriots traded for Josh Gordon on Monday and now are being linked to free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
The news comes from Kaepernick’s lawyer who hinted that the Patriots are interested in bringing in the 30-year-old quarterback. We will have to wait and see what actually happens, but the thought of having Kap as Tom Brady’s backup is definitely intriguing.
So here are 3 reasons that the New England Patriots should bring in Colin Kaepernick.

1. He’s a dual threat
One of the main pro’s of having Colin Kaepernick is that he is a threat on his feet as well as throwing the ball. The Patriots have had success with Jacoby Brissett who is good at running the ball as well.
If the worst case scenario happened, I think that Kaepernick could get the job done. The Patriots playbook could be tweaked a little bit to add some RPO (Run-Pass-Option) plays and I think Kaepernick would be deadly.
He could chuck the ball up to Josh Gordon, and have Julian Edelman and Chris Hogan as safety valves in the slot. Also having Rob Gronkowski running routes makes things a lot easier for a quarterback.
Also with the Patriots offensive line not being that great, Kaepernick could extend some plays that Brady simply can’t as a 41-year-old QB.
Now a lot of dual-threat quarterbacks can be worn down by 30, but Kaepernick has been forced to take a break since teams seem scared to sign him. Kap will be coming back completely fresh.
Some may say this could lead to rust, but I think Kaepernick would have enough weapons in New England to make the transition much easier.
Also, it is hard to look at the Patriots depth chart and think that Kaepernick couldn’t make a change.
