New England Patriots: Julian Edelman’s comeback tour has begun

Julian Edelman has completed his suspension and is back with the New England Patriots. New England needs him to produce right away.

The New England Patriots have realized how important Julian Edelman is to their offense. With Edelman suspended for 4 games we got to see what life without Edelman would be like. It wasn’t pretty.

Tom Brady struggled to find open receivers in the first few weeks. Part of this was due to the offensive line, but the wideouts struggled to get open.

Brady and the Patriots got off to a rough start this season, but it appears that the ship was righted in Week 4. Now that Edelman is back there are no excuses. The Patriots offense needs to ramp things up.

Edelman is going to be expected to produce right away. He will be the Patriots top receiver and will be targeted a lot.

The Patriots wide receiving corps is rather fragile. The only true threats they have besides Edelman is Phillip Dorsett and Josh Gordon. Gordon just joined the team so he is still getting acclimated to the Patriots way. It was a good sign to see Gordon play and have some catches in Week 4, but I don’t know if he can be relied upon for major production just yet.

The million dollar question is what Julian Edelman will the Patriots be getting? An ACL injury is nothing to scoff at even with modern medicine.

Will Edelman be able to make the same cuts, and move at the same pace that he did before the surgery? When you add in the fact that Edelman got busted for PED’s it sounds like Edelman may struggle.

But if Edelman is able to perform well he will take a ton of pressure off the Patriots offense. He will open up opportunities for Rob Gronkowski to get open as well as other wideouts.
