Calm down: Boston Celtics are going to be just fine

It’s been three games, but every game has brought an overreaction of its own.  No, it hasn’t been pretty.  However, the Boston Celtics will figure it out.

Opening night for the Boston Celtics was awesome, right?

A Jaylen Brown dunk on Joel Embiid. A Gordon Hayward three. Energy and excitement for a new season with tons of expectations.

Then a loss in Toronto to the Raptors, and a way-too-close game in New York against the Knicks has caused fans to worry  Now, it feels like the sky is falling and the Celtics are destined for the eighth seed and a first-round exit.

Pump the brakes.

Overreaction is normal. I mean, we’re sports fans, that’s what we do!  Let’s really take a look at what’s happening with the C’s right now though.

Three guys coming off of major injuries are being reintegrated into the offense. The idea that this would be a seamless transition isn’t true.

That team last season was accustomed to playing together and had built a strong chemistry by the end of their playoff run. Now, that chemistry has to rebuild and guys have to figure out their spots.

It’s not the bench as much as it is the starters. Obviously, the two biggest parts of this team in Gordon Hayward and Kyrie Irving are working their way back. They’re both starters and need to figure out where they fit in amongst Jaylen Brown, Al Horford, and Jayson Tatum.

I think we tend to forget that at the start of every season, head coach Brad Stevens plays with rotations and experiments in a bunch of different ways.

Not calling a timeout in Toronto? Intentional. He wants the guys to figure it out. Take the early season loss, this is about the bigger picture.

There are plenty of high IQ guys on this team, and it’ll get figured out. When the ball starts moving more fluidly, you’ll see more of Jaylen Brown’s impact. Easier shots for all the starters and cuts to the basket. The Toronto Raptors are no joke, but I have full confidence in this Celtics roster to end up as the top team in the conference.

So, relax everyone. Kinks were expected, everything’s going to be just fine.
