When James White got injured all of New England went into panic mode. Who would be able to run the ball now? Well, the New England Patriots know how to turn trash into treasure and we saw that in Week 9 with Cordarrelle Patterson.

It took until Week 9, but Cordarrelle Patterson finally made a major impact in the New England Patriots offense. The surprising thing was that it wasn’t because of his ability as a wide receiver. Patterson had a great game on Sunday night as a running back.

James White got injured late in the 2nd half and everyone panicked. The Patriots were already without Sony Michel. What would the Patriots do?

They did what they always do. They turned what was once viewed as trash, and turned it into treasure. Patterson was great as a running back and made an impact almost immediately.

More from Chowder and Champions

Patterson had 11 carries for 61 yards and a touchdown. That’s a pretty good stat line for a guy who is primarily a wideout.

I think that fans forget just how big Patterson is. He is 6’2″ and weighs 220 pounds. That isn’t easy to bring down.

Patterson showed off his power in his touchdown run. He burst through the hole and bounced off a defender and into the end zone. It looks like the Patriots may have found the power back they have been looking for.

With Patterson’s recent success they can afford to rest Sony Michel until he is completely healthy. A combo of James White and Patterson is pretty dangerous. Both of these guys can catch the ball out of the backfield which causes problems for opposing defenses.

The Patriots running game is back and better than ever, and a large part of that is due to Cordarrelle Patterson’s rise to prominence at running back. He should open up the Patriots offense and make life easier for Tom Brady.

Next. Adrian Clayborn now living up to the pressure. dark

When Sony Michel returns the Patriots will have a three-headed monster in the backfield. Things just always seem to go New England’s way.
