New England Patriots: James White is team’s best player this year

The New England Patriots best player this year isn’t Tom Brady or Rob Gronkowski, it’s running back James White.

When you think of the New England Patriots what are the first couple of names that come to your mind? Tom Brady? Rob Gronkowski? Well, what about James White? White is having a phenomenal season and in my opinion is the Patriots best player this year.

White is the center of New England’s offense. He is a great pass catching back and has been forced to become a better runner.

So far this season, White has 45 catches for 380 yards and 6 touchdowns as well as 40 carries for 189 yards and a touchdown.

White just does so many things well. On one play he can make a great block as Tom Brady drops back to pass, then the next play he can go off for a nice run, and then the next play White can make a great catch to secure a first down.

Right now I think that Tom Brady trust’s White the most. White has 61 targets this season. That is almost double Rob Gronkowski (35) who is the next closest player. White has been given a chance to prove that he is a great player, and after his performance so far this season it’s hard to say that he isn’t.

White is absolutely deadly in the open field. He has the ability to make defenders miss and make some big plays. White also has some amazing hands. Sometimes you almost forget that he is a running back.

Now White has a challenge. With Sony Michel most likely missing some time, White will be the main back. He will have to be great running the ball out of the backfield as well as catching it. It will be an interesting experiment to see if White has the capability to be the Patriots sole running back.

The last few years the New England Patriots have embraced a running back by committee approach. If White continues to perform well it will be harder to justify taking plays away from him.

So James White is easily the Patriots best player this season. He has consistently been succesful and has been the light of New England’s offense. Hopefully, his stardom will continue to shine brighter as the season progresses.
