Boston Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask is taking a leave of absence from the team. The details surrounding the situation have fans wondering what is going on.

Tuukka Rask is taking a break. The Boston Bruins announced on Friday that Rask will be taking a leave of absence from the team.

This comes off of the Bruins worst goaltending performance of the season. Jaroslav Halak started the game on Thursday night and would allow 5 goals. Rask wasn’t successful in relief giving up 3 more.

Now Friday was kind of a weird day for the Bruins. Practice started 20 minutes late and before it started, head coach Bruce Cassidy, captain Zdeno Chara, and assistant captain Patrice Bergeron had a long conversation.

Everything about this situation seems off. Rask has been uncharacteristically bad. I know Rask has struggled early on in the season before, but usually by now he would have figured things out.

The Bruins said that the issue wasn’t health related which is obviously good to hear. Boston can’t really afford to lose Halak or Rask to injury. I don’t really trust Zane McIntyre or Dan Vlader.

Stepping away from the ice is probably the best thing for Rask right now. Being a goalie is a lonely position. The weight of the entire team feels like it is on your shoulders. When you are playing bad you feel like you are letting everyone down.

Hopefully, Rask is able to handle whatever has been bothering him. The Bruins definitely need him. No matter if you like him or not he is the starting goaltender. The Bruins need him to perform at a high level.

dark. Next. 3 trade targets to rid Bruins scoring woes

For now, the Bruins just have to focus on winning games without their teammate, and when Tuukka Rask comes back hopefully he will become the goaltender that we know and love. The goaltender that is making amazing saves and winning games.
