New England Patriots: All-Pro honors tops off Stephon Gilmore’s great season
By Sam Minton
Stephon Gilmore has had an amazing season for the New England Patriots and being named First Team All-Pro is just the cherry on top.
When you think of All-Pro players on the New England Patriots usually you would think of Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, but this season has been unique. The duo was not among the names on the First Team All-Pro selections. Only one Patriot was, Stephon Gilmore.
Gilmore has been a beast this season. He can absolutely lock down an opposing team’s best receiver. For example, Gilmore went up against Antonio Brown, and Stefon Diggs and held his own.
This season Gilmore had 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, 20 pass deflections, 45 tackles, and a sack. The most impressive stat in my opinion, is that opposing QB’s completed less than 50 percent of passes thrown Gilmore’s way.

I am really glad that the Patriots took a chance on Gilmore. Malcolm Butler proved himself and became a hero in New England. He seemed like he was going to be one of the faces of the franchise. Then he went to the Titans and completely fell apart.
The Patriots made it clear that Gilmore was their guy moving forward and boy did it pay off.
Gilmore is going to be a key player for the Patriots moving forward. New England needs him to continue to lock guys down. For the first time in a long time, I am not so sure about the Patriots winning an offensive shootout.
The Patriots need a solid defense if they want to win a Super Bowl. New England’s defense fell apart against the Philadelphia Eagles last year and was the main reason the Patriots lost the game.
Tom Brady and the offense played out of their minds. Brady threw for over 500 yards. You can’t ask for a lot more from your quarterback.
It may be cliche but defense truly wins championships in the NFL.
