The New England Patriots have shown lots of interest in Will Grier. If they are to take the quarterback in the 2019 NFL Draft where should they take him?

The 2019 NFL Draft is getting closer and closer. This year things will be interesting for the New England Patriots.

New England is in a rebuilding stage of sorts. They will probably make it back to the Super Bowl, but there are lots of holes to fill.

More from Chowder and Champions

Mainly the Patriots offense needs lots of help. The retirement of Rob Gronkowski was a major blow. The team lost one of their best offensive weapons.

The Patriots also have to plan for the future. Tom Brady may seem unstoppable now, but eventually the guy has to retire. New England has to have some sort of backup plan at quarterback.

For the entire offseason Will Grier has been connected to the New England Patriots. The team seems to be very interested in the QB out of West Virginia.

The interest makes sense. Grier is one of the best quarterbacks in the draft and has one hell of an arm. It would be interesting to see a New England quarterback who can throw the long ball with ease.

If I was the New England Patriots I would try and draft Grier in the 2nd round.

The Patriots have other needs that require urgent attention. Taking a quarterback in the 1st round seems like a waste, especially when Tom Brady is going to play for at least two more years.

In the 1st round I want to see the Patriots take a wide receiver or tight end that can hopefully make an impact in his rookie year. If not life will be very difficult for Tom Brady and the offense.

Most likely Grier will still be available when the Patriots are on the clock in the 2nd round. If the Patriots are as interested as we believe in the quarterback they will probably move up to ensure they get him.

If the Patriots do draft Grier they may have finally found the Brady successor. Grier worked in an offense that was modeled after the New England Patriots. There wouldn’t be an insane learning curve for the rookie.

Also Tom Brady is a fountain of knowledge. He basically has a football library in his brain. Being able to study under Brady will improve even the worst of quarterbacks.

So it appears that the New England Patriots have found their future, but will he end up in New England or will the QB search continue for another year?
