Jake DeBrusk was a controversial figure in the 1st round but Toronto Maple Leafs fans took it too far by sending the Boston Bruins forward death threats.

Sometimes people need to take a deep breath before they do things. All of Toronto needs to look in the mirror after sending Boston Bruins winger Jake DeBrusk death threats.

People need to remember that sports are sports. It isn’t war or something truly serious. In the end, these guys are getting paid millions to play a game.

The fact that DeBrusk and his family were receiving death threats over something that happened in a hockey game is disgusting. When DeBrusk revealed this to 98.5 the Sports Hub’s Toucher and Rich I wish I could say I was shocked, but I wasn’t.

The Maple Leafs fans were being rather awful throughout the playoffs. They were yelling during the national anthem and one guy thought he would be cool and block the TV camera for millions of viewers in a crucial part of a game.

Fans across all sports need to realize that these athletes are human beings too. How would you feel if you were a victim of such threats?

Professional sports leagues need to do something to protect the players. If not we may see a repeat of Mike Milbury’s shoe beating of a fan because you can only take so much. After a while a player will just snap and I can’t blame them. Some insults that are hurled at players are truly awful.

In this case the NHL needs to look into punishing the Leafs. It will be the only way to get the message across that this isn’t okay. It’s crazy to think that you would have to deter someone from sending death threats to a hockey player, but here we are.

I feel bad for Jake DeBrusk. All he was trying to do was play the game he loves and make a living. Death threats are something that he never expected when he was playing hockey as a kid.

The fact that DeBrusk’s family was dragged into this is disgusting as well. There is no need to bring a player’s family into this. Now DeBrusk has to worry about his family’s safety as well as playing in some of the most important games of his career.

So Toronto Maple Leafs should be ashamed of themselves. This type of behavior is despicable and deserves some form of punishment. Hopefully Maple Leafs fans will realize how awful they have been and act like civilized human beings next season.
