The Boston Celtics need Kyrie Irving to get out of this slump if they want to have any chance of reaching the Eastern Conference Finals.

They are who we thought they were. All season we were waiting for the Boston Celtics to show who they truly are, but maybe we already knew?

This season could already be considered a disappointment. With Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward healthy, it seemed like the Celtics were in firm control of the Eastern Conference. That couldn’t have been further from the truth.

More from Chowder and Champions

Throughout the regular season Boston struggled. The team struggled to gel and find their individual roles. We would see Irving and Jayson Tatum go off but the team struggled to win games.

So far in the 2nd round Kyrie Irving has gone missing. He was supposed to be leading the team and not hurting them. The killer Kyrie that we know and love doesn’t appear to be around anymore.

In his last 3 games, Irving has shot 19-62 from the field. That is just awful. You can’t be getting that bad of a performance from the centerpiece of your organization.

Many times during the regular season Kyrie Irving told us that we didn’t need to worry. Irving said that he and the Celtics would flip the switch in the playoffs, but that doesn’t appear to be happening.

Boston is on the brink of elimination and if they continue to play like they did in Game 3 they will be headed on vacation and not to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Irving’s performance so far in the playoffs has left a sour taste in fan’s mouths. He just seems like he doesn’t care about anything. This isn’t the player we were expecting to get when we made a trade with Cleveland.

The Celtics need Kyrie Irving to be scoring baskets and being efficient while doing so. He needs to defer to other players if he isn’t finding his shot as well. Irving can’t be chucking up shots if they aren’t dropping.

If this is the Kyrie Irving that the Boston Celtics are getting, maybe they should consider moving on from the point guard. I know it sounds crazy, but we expected championships when Irving was acquired and Boston is far from raising another banner.

Next. Never doubt the importance of Al Horford. dark

So we may have seen Kyrie Irving play his last game at TD Garden and if it was Danny Ainge may have made a big mistake.
