The New England Patriot are tasked with an impossible job, replacing Rob Gronkowski. Austin Seferian-Jenkins looked to be the starting tight end, but New England released him on Tuesday.

In New England we never know what is going on. The New England Patriots make some moves that can make your head spin, but as the saying goes “in Bill we trust.”

There is no doubt that the weakest position on the Patriots is tight end. New England lost the greatest tight end in NFL history when Rob Gronkowski decided to retire.

The Patriots made some moves to boost their standing at the position. One move that appeared to be great was the signing of Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

Seferian-Jenkins has some talent. He is a quality pass catcher who can also block. New England seemed to be the perfect destination for Seferian-Jenkins. How many players have revitalized their careers with the Patriots?

Well now Seferian-Jenkins’ career appears to be on hold. The New England Patriots released the tight end on Tuesday.

There is still a chance that Seferian-Jenkins finds his way back to New England. He is stepping away for personal reasons so the Patriots are just letting him focus on himself.

Whatever issues that Seferian-Jenkins is dealing with, you hope that they are solved. Hopefully it isn’t too serious.

If Seferian-Jenkins does play this year the Patriots definitely could use him. Right now your Week 1 starter is Matt LaCosse. That is not something that I would be looking forward to.

We knew that the Patriots tight ends were going to be a work in progress, but things are looking rather bleak. New England’s wide receivers will have to step up and be the main factors in the passing game.

The New England Patriots definitely have to find some better options at tight end or life could be difficult for Tom Brady and the offense.
