Boston Celtics: Why re-signing Al Horford should be top priority
By Sam Minton
The focus might be on Kyrie Irving but one of the Boston Celtics top priorities should be re-signing veteran Al Horford.
There is one guy that has played a key role in the Boston Celtics recent success. No it isn’t Kyrie Irving or Jayson Tatum. Al Horford is the glue that holds the team together.
Horford isn’t your typical big man. He is a great facilitator and can shoot the ball from outside the paint rather well

Last season was a decent season for Horford. He averaged 13.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game.
Now even though Kyrie Irving is someone you want to bring back, the Boston Celtics need to make Al Horford a priority.
Especially after the disaster of the 2018-19 season, the Celtics need a veteran to set everyone straight. No matter if Kyrie Irving returns or not, I expect to see guys like Marcus Smart and Horford take control in the locker room.
Also Horford has made Boston his home. You almost forget that he started off his career destroying the Celtics with the Atlanta Hawks.
Horford deserves to retire a Celtic and maybe even get that championship he has desperately been searching for.
Still Boston has to be smart. Horford isn’t getting any younger so they can’t blow valuable cap space on an aging big man.
But if Horford is willing to take a hometown discount there is no reason that the Boston Celtics shouldn’t re-sign him. He still is a quality scorer and even if he isn’t playing well he is a great locker room presence.
It will be interesting to see what Al Horford decides on doing. All Celtics fans are hoping that he stays with the team as he is one of the more beloved players on the roster.
There is no reason that the Celtics shouldn’t bring back Al Horford.
