Sony Michel will be on the Physically Unable to Perform list and New England Patriots fans are just hoping that he will be healthy before the start of the regular season.

When the New England Patriots drafted Sony Michel they knew the baggage that came with him. Michel has always had problems with his knees. So far in his NFL career nothing has changed.

In his rookie season, Michel had to miss only played in 13 games because of knee issues. The rookie didn’t get his first carry until Week 2 and suffered a knee injury in a Week 7 game in Chicago that kept him out until Week 10.

There is no doubt that Michel’s rookie season was a great success even with the injuries. He almost rushed for 1000 yards and had 6 touchdowns.

Once Michel gets going there is no stopping him. If you give him open space he is going to take advantage. We saw multiple examples of this in 2018.

Michel was even a major reason that the Patriots were able to win the Super Bowl. The rookie put up amazing numbers in the postseason.

In the 2 postseason games prior to the Super Bowl Michel ran for 242 yards and had 5 touchdowns. Then in the Super Bowl, Michel had 18 carries for 94 yards and a touchdown.

During the offseason Michel once again had his knee checked out. He underwent arthroscopic knee surgery. This will cause Michel to open up the offseason on the PUP list.

Now hopefully this isn’t anything too serious. I don’t expect Michel to miss the regular season, but it is always concerning when you end up on the PUP list.

Michel will be the Patriots primary back. Even though guys like Jeremy Hill and Rex Burkhead are returning, Michel will get the majority of the carries.

With the loss of Rob Gronkowski, I think that the Patriots offense is going to be much more balanced. Expect to see the ball in Michel and other backs hands much more in 2019.

So even though this isn’t good news I expect that we will be seeing Sony Michel running all over the field when Week 1 of the regular season comes around.
