New England Patriots: Stephon Gilmore is top 10 player
By Sam Minton
Stephon Gilmore finally made it into the NFL Top 100 rankings, but the New England Patriots cornerback should be rated higher.
After last season there is no doubt that Stephon Gilmore proved that he is one of the premier cornerbacks in the NFL today. He was arguably the best player on the New England Patriots defense in 2018.
Gilmore shut opposing wide receivers down. He went toe to toe with some of the best pass catchers in the NFL today and was victorious. So it was no surprise to see Gilmore find his way on the top 100 list

Now I will give credit to the players because they were smart enough to rank Gilmore the best cornerback in the NFL (I assume Jalen Ramsey disagrees). The problem is that Gilmore should be ranked higher.
Gilmore is the face of the New England Patriots defense. Headed into 2019 he is far and away the best player when he is on the field.
With his recent success and skill, Gilmore should be a top 10 player. He is the best corner in the league and will continue to be for a while.
So far the top 20 has yet to be released but we can already see that Gilmore should have been ranked higher. Gilmore is definitely a better player than Travis Kelce.
Also when it matters most, Gilmore always performs well. He sealed the Patriots victory with an interception in the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl and was phenomenal throughout the playoffs.
2019 should be another great season for Gilmore. That is definitely what New England Patriots fans are expecting from him. With the offense losing some of its firepower the defense will probably have to win some games for the team.
So Stephon Gilmore is probably just happy to make the list and be ranked the best cornerback in the NFL by his peers, but he deserves better. Hopefully he will be ranked higher next season.
