Boston Bruins: Tuukka Rask was a bargain
By Sam Minton
Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy’s new contract proves that the Boston Bruins got a bargain in goaltender Tuukka Rask’s contract.
There might not be any Tuukka Rask haters after his performance in the 2018-19 Stanley Cup Finals, but the Boston Bruins goaltender has had to deal with a lot of criticism.
One thing that critics of Rask would go after is his contract and say that he wasn’t worth the investment. The B’s signed Rask to an 8-year deal worth $56 million. The goaltender’s deal will expire after the 2020-21 season.

That is definitely a whole lot of money, but let’s look at the contract that Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy just got. The Lightning signed him to an 8-year deal worth $76 million.
Rask signed his deal at the exact same point in his career, but for $2.5 million cheaper. If you ask me what goaltender I would rather have, the answer is Rask.
Throughout his career we have seen Rask bail out the Bruins. He has single-handedly stolen games for the team.
Last season was another great one for Rask. He had a goals against average of 2.48 and a save percentage of .912.
Rask has also been very consistent throughout his career. He has a career goals against average of 2.28 and a save percentage of .921.
So hopefully fans will start to lay off of Rask. His performance last season, especially in the playoffs was amazing. It seemed like nothing could get by Rask.
It is clear that Tuukka Rask is one of your top players and will be for years to come. He should be loved and appreciated just like Patrice Bergeron and Zdeno Chara.
So it is now clear that the Boston Bruins basically got a steal when they signed Tuukka Rask to his 7-year contract. When his contract expires hopefully he won’t cost too much.
