The New England Patriots are trimming their roster down to 53 players and some of there recent draft picks are now off of the roster.

The New England Patriots have made the necessary cuts and like always they have made some surprising moves. Some of these moves may have fans mad at Bill Belichick.

Belichick’s draft picks have always come under scrutiny. He has made some great picks, but there have been a lot of busts. Who can forget such legendary players as Ras-I Dowling, Cyrus Jones, Chad Jackson, and Aaron Dobson?

Now there will be two more names added to that list, Braxton Berrios and Duke Dawson. The Patriots traded Dawson and cut Berrios.

Let’s start with the positive the Patriots were at least able to get something out of it. New England traded Dawson (who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2018 draft) and a 2020 6th round pick for the Denver Broncos 7th round pick in the same year.

The fact that Dawson was traded for a 7th round pick shows how quickly his stock has dipped. Injuries played him in his rookie season and he was never able to carve out a spot on the Patriots roster.

Now I was very surprised to hear that Braxton Berrios was cut. I thought he had a solid chance to make the roster this season. Like Dawson, Berrios dealt with injuries in his rookie season.

Berrios was drafted in the 6th round but he was still hyped up to be the 2nd coming of Julian Edelman. The fact that he was cut is disappointing.

It is fair to question Bill Belichick’s drafting ability, but he sure has a great eye for talent. Who else could turn guys like Malcolm Butler into premier players?

Recently though Belichick has made some great pickups. Sony Michel, Ja’Whaun Bentley, and JC Jackson are already major parts of the team. Also N’Keal Harry looks like he could be a top receiver in the near future.

Next. Rob Gronkowski isn't returning. dark

Still it leaves a sour taste in your mouth whenever one of these draft picks like Duke Dawson or Braxton Berrios fail to pay dividends.
