The Boston Bruins signed Charlie McAvoy to a three year deal over the weekend and it didn’t cost them a whole lot.

Well Boston’s nightmare is finally over. The Boston Bruins signed Charlie McAvoy to a three-year deal over the weekend and ensured that they won’t be losing one of the best defensemen in the NHL.

McAvoy signed a three year deal with an average cap hit of $4.9 million. When you look around the NHL that deal is a bargain. Jared Spurgeon just signed a monster 7-year deal and McAvoy is a much better player.

More from Chowder and Champions

It’s like the hockey gods created McAvoy in a factory. He can lay the lumber in his own zone while rocketing the puck through the net on the other side of the ice. Whenever Zdeno Chara decides to retire the Bruins will be just alright.

McAvoy is a very consistent player and I think we will see him improve in the coming season. He just needs to stay healthy.

McAvoy has yet to play a complete season in the NHL and a lot of the blame can’t really be placed on the youngster. If you have a heart problem you can’t really control that and we saw McAvoy miss a lot of time due to these unpredictable injuries.

If McAvoy plays a full season I think we will see him eclipse 50 points and have a ton more goals. He has such an amazing shot and has great stick-handling ability.

Now that McAvoy has inked this deal he will be motivated to bring home a Stanley Cup. He now knows the terrible feeling that is losing a Stanley Cup Game 7. He will want to replace that with a win as soon as possible.

Next. Bruce Cassidy deserved an extension. dark

So I am glad to see Charlie McAvoy get a new deal and see him don the black and gold for the foreseeable future.
