Boston Bruins player preview 2019: Charlie McAvoy will pay off
By Sam Minton
Charlie McAvoy got the deal that he was looking for from the Boston Bruins and now he can just focus on playing hockey.
We have seen Charlie McAvoy burst onto the scene rather quickly. He made the jump from Boston University to the NHL with ease. Immediately you saw that the Boston Bruins had a special player.
Now that doesn’t mean that McAvoy hasn’t had his struggles. His career has been filled with injuries and sadly a lot of them weren’t his fault. For example, we saw McAvoy miss some time due to a heart ailment.

We really saw McAvoy find his groove last season. He was delivering devastating hits and sniping some goals as well.
Now McAvoy technically took a step back. He scored the same amount of goals (7) but had 4 fewer assists last season.
McAvoy improved his defensive ability and just seemed more comfortable out on the ice. He looked like a top unit defenseman.
This season’s expectations will be high for McAvoy. The Bruins locked him up and he will have to show that he is worth that deal.
I think that McAvoy will have a great season. Fans should expect McAvoy to have close to 20 goals and close to 45 assists. This will all be dependent on McAvoy staying healthy and not missing a lot of games.
Last season McAvoy only played in 54 games and still put up some impressive numbers. Hopefully, he can increase his output if he is able to play 70 plus games.
I think McAvoy will be the Bruins best defensemen this year and compete for the Norris Trophy. Now that he knows his future is with the Boston Bruins I think he will be more relaxed and that will help him play better.
So Boston Bruins fans should expect a career year from Charlie McAvoy this season.
