Jayson Tatum got advice from an NBA legend prior to the 2018-19 season and Boston Celtics fans were worried. Now Tatum is listening to the right people.

When Boston Celtics fans heard that Jayson Tatum was training with Kobe Bryant they panicked and rightly so. We all know the type of player Kobe was.

He was the Mamba. The man who deferred to no one and at times made things a lot more difficult than they should be. There wasn’t any place on the court that Bryant wouldn’t shoot from.

We saw this seep into Tatum’s game last season. He took some questionable shots and just wasn’t himself. Even though Tatum upped his points per game and rebounding numbers the season seemed like more of a step back.

Even Tatum himself admits that last season something was off.

"“Last year was kind of funky in all aspects,” Tatum said. “I understand that. I acknowledge that, and I’m just trying to be better this year.”"

This season there won’t be any practicing with Kobe. Now Tatum is working with veteran Celtics assistant coach Jay Larranaga and that is a good thing.

We have already seen the positive effects of Tatum’s hard work. In the Celtics first preseason game he looked great. It almost seemed like Kemba Walker and other teammates were deferring to him. If Tatum can keep playing like this he will have the best season of his career.

Tatum is running out of time to prove that he can be a star in this league. It is one thing to have an impressive rookie season, but Tatum needs to start being an all-star and averaging 20 points per game.

Now that Kyrie Irving is gone I think Tatum will improve. Kemba Walker isn’t as selfish as Irving but still demands the ball. But it is clear that Tatum will be one of the main people that Boston looks to for points each and every night.

So expect to see a different Jayson Tatum this season and hopefully that will mean more wins for the Boston Celtics.
