Boston Celtics Rumors: Keeping Gordon Hayward a long-term plan
By Sam Minton
The Boston Celtics want Gordon Hayward to stay and if he did he would get a 2nd chance to bring the team a championship.
The beginning of Gordon Hayward’s Boston Celtics career didn’t go as planned, but the team seems to be sticking by him.
No one could have thought that in Hayward’s first regular season game as a Celtic he would suffer a catastrophic knee injury. Ever since he has been trying to recover.

the 2019-20 season seems to be the first full season we have gotten to see a (relatively) completely healthy Gordon Hayward. It sure has been fun to watch.
Hayward is averaging over 17 points and 6 rebounds a game. That’s the type of production the Celtics were expecting when they acquired Hayward.
Now Hayward has a year left on his contract but he can opt-out this year if he chooses so. If the Boston Celtics have their way, Hayward won’t be going anywhere.
According to Brian Robb, the Celtics want to keep Hayward in Boston for a long time.
I would like to see Hayward stay in Boston. His first contract was spent trying to get healthy. This is the first year we have gotten to see what Hayward is capable of.
The Celtics have a chance to make a run all the way to the Finals but it will take a lot of luck, but if the Celtics can lock up Hayward they will have a good group to compete for multiple years.
The best move for the Celtics would be to lock up Hayward after this season. Then when Jayson Tatum’s contract is up they can focus on re-signing him.
But with Hayward and this current core group of players, the Celtics will be able to compete for championships. Not just for a year but for the foreseeable future.
