With the New England Patriots picking up Jason McCourty’s contract option it seems like Devin McCourty will be staying in New England.

All the talk is about Tom Brady, but the New England Patriots have a lot of free agency decisions they have to make. On Tuesday it appears that they made one.

The Patriots are picking up Jason McCourty’s contract option that will keep him in New England. This is a solid move that will boost the cornerback depth of New England. We will likely see McCourty third or 4th on the depth chart.

But this also has implications for the New England Patriots and Devin McCourty. One would have to assume that this means he is coming back to New England.

The McCourty twins have dreamed of playing with one another in the NFL. They were finally able to do so in New England and even won a Super Bowl together.

There is no doubt that if McCourty wants to get paid the money will be out there. He is coming off what was arguably his best season where he had 5 interceptions and was the captain of New England’s defense.

But now New England has the one thing that no other team can offer, the chance to finish out his career with his twin brother. That is arguably worth more than any dollar amount.

So I would expect to see Devin McCourty come back to New England even though they definitely won’t be the highest bidder. You’ll likely see McCourty take a nice hometown discount to stay with the Pats.

Obviously, the star of New England’s defense is Stephon Gilmore, but having a guy like Devin McCourty who has played his entire career in New England as a constant presence in the locker room helps your team a lot.

So it looks like the McCourty twins will be staying in New England and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
