New England Patriots: What Brian Hoyer signing means
By Sam Minton
Brian Hoyer is once again on the New England Patriots and it looks like the team has an idea on who they want to start for them next season.
The New England Patriots finally made a move at quarterback. Fair warning it is not anyone special.
New England signed Brian Hoyer to a one year deal on Sunday. Unless they decide to draft a quarterback the position seems set in stone.
Now I love Hoyer. He has served as Tom Brady’s backup for multiple stints. Hoyer’s teammates have given him glowing reviews about Hoyer’s ability to prepare. He will definitely have to do that next season.
With Hoyer being signed it seems like the Patriots are ready to hand over the reins to Jarrett Stidham.
Hoyer will be a mentor to Stidham. Just like Stidham, Hoyer worked under Brady and was able to learn valuable intelligence from him.
So New England Patriots fans should get ready to witness the start of the Jarrett Stidham era. I think it is important to remember to temper expectations.
I’m not expecting a 12-4 or 11-5 season next year. I honestly wouldn’t be too upset if they went 8-8.
Patriots fans just hope that Stidham isn’t a disaster. We want to see that there is something to build on.
Analysts have been hyping up Stidham this offseason. His ability under pressure and confidence has been lauded and Jordan Palmer thinks he will be a star. We will definitely have to wait and see if that is the case.
But the signing of Brian Hoyer signals that a change is happening. The Patriots are getting younger and putting a lot of trust in a player with little experience.
The New England Patriots offense will look a lot different next season. What remains to be seen is if that is a good thing or a bad thing?
