The New England Patriots appear to be in the running for Andy Dalton and if they do in fact sign him it would be a disaster.

Just when you think Jarrett Stidham has a secure job another rumor arises. First, it was Cam Newton, now it is Andy Dalton who could be joining the New England Patriots.

Dalton was released by the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday. The team appears to be putting their full confidence behind Joe Burrow.

Now that Dalton is released the New England Patriots have arisen as a favorite to sign him. That would be a disaster.

Dalton is a bad quarterback. There is no other way to put it. He is an interception machine and the antithesis of a winner.

Last season Dalton appeared in 13 games and threw for 3,494 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. If Dalton does that in New England tomatoes will be thrown on the field.

If the Patriots were to sign Dalton they would be spitting in the face of Jarrett Stidham. They would be saying that Stidham isn’t ready.

The best-case scenario for the Patriots would be that they barely make the playoffs. New England won’t be going 12-4 with Dalton as their quarterback.

The worst-case scenario would be that Dalton is horrible and they would have to play Stidham anyway. Throwing Stidham into the middle of the fire during the season wouldn’t be ideal.

It is time for the Patriots to trust Jarrett Stidham. He is a young quarterback who could become the future of the team. Dalton is 32 years old and his “better” years are behind him.

The New England Patriots need to start preparing for the future. Signing Dalton would be mortgaging that future for a minimal chance of success.

With Stidham at quarterback, you get something new. You get to see a QB bloom and possibly win a starting job. Even if he doesn’t do that well they can draft another quarterback next season. It’s unlikely they get Trevor Lawrence but they could find a diamond in the rough.

James Develin restored the fullback position. dark. Next

So I’m begging the New England Patriots, please don’t sign Andy Dalton.
