The face of the Boston Red Sox is changing after the departure of Mookie Betts. The torch has been passed over to fan-favorite Andrew “Benny” Benintendi.

Benny, Benny, Benny, we all love Andrew Benintendi. With Mookie Betts gone all the lights shine on the youngster out of the University of Arkansas. Since the delayed start to the 2020 Major League Baseball season, one stud outfielder for the Boston Red Sox is eager to get back on the field. Yes, Andrew Benintendi is who I am talking about. Why him specifically?

Well, fan-favorite Mookie Betts is now a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Therefore, the future of the Boston Red Sox lies in the hands of Andrew Benintendi.

More from Chowder and Champions

He’s one of the most beloved Red Sox players of all time, and the kid has only played two full seasons with the team. Whether it be the obsessive and dreamy teenage girls or the old grandpa that sees some serious potential, Benny is the face of the franchise now, so buckle your seatbelt Boston.

Two full seasons, one of which he was a crucial part of the World Series win, the slugging lefty is ready to take the league by storm. When you look at the great Benny moments in his two seasons with the Sox, you think about his game-saving catch in game four of the ALCS against the Houston Astros. His heart racing diving snag was the moment Boston fans knew this up and coming star was the real deal.

Signs of greatness were put on display earlier, though. The home run robbery in Tampa Bay and the two-run shot against the Houston Astros in the previous playoffs, Benny has always been someone baseball needed to keep an eye on.

With the star power of Mookie Betts, Benintendi was seen as just a really good outfielder, who could hit a few bombs here and there. The 25-year-old has never been given the true recognition he deserves.

In Game One of the World Series back in 2018, Benintendi’s double to knock in Betts in the first inning was a statement. A top-three pitcher in the game, Clayton Kershaw, was in trouble after one inning because of Andrew Benintendi’s RBI to kick off the World Series.

From that point, it was off to the races for Benintendi and the Red Sox. A leaping grab, nearly smashing into the daunting Green Monster, in Game Two, had fans thinking maybe he should have gone into gymnastics instead. One hell of a cabriole or whatever dance nerds call it.

Back to baseball, Andrew Benintendi’s performance in the 2018 World Series was nothing short of spectacular. No more drama, no more contract rumors, and issues, the Boston Red Sox are back, and it’s time to unleash the beautiful beast, Andrew “Benny” Benintendi.
