Mohamed Sanu was traded for a 2nd round pick and he needs to perform better for the New England Patriots in 2020 or the trade will have been a massive bust.

Last season didn’t end well for the New England Patriots. Losing in the wildcard round is something we aren’t exactly used to seeing.

The Patriots struggled to throw the ball last season even though they made moves to try and help out Tom Brady. New England gave up a 2nd round pick in order to acquire Mohamed Sanu.

Sanu got off to a good start with the Patriots, but he fizzled out. This most likely had to do with him getting hurt in just his 3rd game with the team. After getting hurt Sanu would go on to only have 12 receptions in 5 games.

Patriots fans got some good news though as Sanu is now out of a boot and is starting to rehab his injured ankle.

The New England Patriots will need Sanu to perform now more than ever. With Brady gone, I expect Julian Edelman to be relied on heavily by Jarrett Stidham. Opposing defenses will focus in on Julian Edelman and even possibly double cover the veteran wide receiver.

This means that other wide receivers will have to pick up the slack. It’s looking like N’Keal Harry will get a lot more targets. Unlike Tom Brady, Stidham will trust Harry early on. We could see Harry put up some decent numbers.

But Sanu has to be better. Hopefully, he can stay healthy because he showed flashes of greatness before he got hurt. Hopefully, in 2020 we will see Sanu put up some more 100 yard games. Opposing secondaries will not be focused on him. This is his chance to show what he can do.

If Sanu struggles the Patriots trade will look even worse. New England could have used that draft pick to bolster the offense.

Bill Belichick and the team must have believed in Sanu and his abilities. They wouldn’t have given up so much last season if they didn’t think Sanu could perform.

So hopefully Mohamed Sanu has a good 2020 season because if he does not both the team and Sanu will have egg on their face.
