With it looking more and more likely that we will see a 24 team playoff format in the NHL for 2020, the Boston Bruins regular season seems all for naught.

Well it looks like we finally will be getting hockey back soon. The NHLPA has agreed to a return to play format and Boston Bruins fans might not be too ecstatic about it.

The format that was agreed upon was the 24 team playoff format that attempts to make up for lost games by adding more teams. Teams fighting for a playoff spot were unable to fully do so because of the season being suspended so it only makes sense to add more teams.

Now before I complain, at the end of the day, we are all just glad hockey will be back. The game has been missed dearly and so have the Boston Bruins.

The B’s were having an amazing season. They were far and away the best team in the NHL and looked like they had a great chance to win the Stanley Cup. Hopefully they aren’t too rusty when they return.

With all that being said the Bruins regular season apparently doesn’t matter as much to the NHL. This format almost rewards teams who have struggled and gives them a chance to sneak their way into the playoffs.

The only perceived benefit for the B’s is that they will get to rest as the play-in games are being played. This could hurt the Bruins though as they might be even more rusty when they return. Hopefully this is not the case.

Ty Anderson from 98.5 the Sports Hub put it perfectly.

If the Bruins win then I will have no problems at all. You can keep the 24 team format for all I care.

But if the Bruins get knocked out in one of the first rounds a lot of people will be angry and quick to blame the playoff format.

So don’t worry, hockey will be back soon and we will get to see our Boston Bruins back on the ice and possibly lifting the Stanley Cup at the end of the season.
