New England Patriots: ESPN FPI shows team is not doomed
By Sam Minton
ESPN released its 2020 Football Power Index and it shows that the New England Patriots will be just fine without Tom Brady.
We are getting closer and closer to the NFL returning and that means we look towards the regular season. Will the New England Patriots fail or will they land on their feet?
It seems that everyone thinks that the Patriots will cease to exist without Tom Brady. How could they win without the greatest quarterback of all time?

Well, it might be a shock to some, but not every team has a great quarterback. Every team besides the Patriots had a QB who wasn’t the best to ever play the game.
Now it’s unfair to expect the Patriots to go 12-4, but they won’t be going 0-16. There is no way they will be tanking and landing the No.1 pick. To put it simply the Patriots aren’t that bad.
New England’s defense will still be a top tier talent. Stephon Gilmore, Dont’a Hightower, and Devin McCourty will be the anchors of the defense that will be the backbone of the team.
Where does ESPN have the New England Patriots ranked?
It’s not often that New England Patriots fans do this, but ESPN got it right with their view on the team. They have the Patriots as the 9th best team with a 60 percent chance of making the Super Bowl. They also predict that they will win 8 or 9 games.
Once again this disproves the notion that the Patriots will be terrible. All they will do is come down to Earth. The Patriots will be an average team in the NFL this year.
The only argument one might make is that the Patriots should be one spot higher. Bill Belichick’s coaching will ensure that New England is better than Tampa Bay. He will be able to build a system that allows Jarrett Stidham to flourish. He won’t be the best quarterback in the league but he should be a quality QB.
So don’t worry Patriots fans New England will be just fine, even the lovely folks at ESPN think so.
