With negotiations between the players and owners intensifying there is a chance that we don’t see the Boston Red Sox take the field in 2020 and that wouldn’t be a bad thing.

With leagues like the NHL announcing plans to restart their season, there is one league who might not even start it at all. MLB might not even play in 2020 and that might help the Boston Red Sox.

Negotiations between the owners and players are reaching a new level of contention. After players took a pay cut and now owners want another one. They claim that they will be taking a massive hit in revenue and that they thought there was a chance they play with fans.

I understand that the players are making millions of dollars but it’s so annoying to hear owners worth billions of dollars crying poor. The players already took a pay cut in good faith so now you have to deal with the consequences.

Things really came to blow when we saw Max Scherzer tweet that the players are done making concessions and want the owners to open up the books and show how much of a loss they are taking.

This makes it seem like there is a good chance that we don’t get baseball in 2020. The owners haven’t budged yet so I don’t think they will be compromising anytime soon.

If for some reason we don’t get a season that would actually help the Boston Red Sox.

Boston would have had a rebuilding year in 2020. They lost Mookie Betts and David Price when they were traded to the Dodgers and Chris Sale is out for the season.

A lot of pressure would have been put on Eduardo Rodriguez to perform well and be the ace for Boston. He might be up for the challenge but even so his efforts would likely be in vain. The Red Sox look primed for 3rd place in the AL East. If Boston made it into the postseason it would be a pleasant surprise.

If the season isn’t played, this would give a guy like Sale a chance to rest and ensure he is ready for next season. Also, this could mean that Dustin Pedroia might finally be healthy enough to play.

Also if the 2020 season was canceled, the Red Sox could bring back Alex Cora without skipping a beat. It is unknown if Cora wants to continue coaching after his suspension, but if no games are played it would seem that all signs would be pointing to him making a return.

Next. Alex Cora might be done managing. dark

So even though it would be tough for baseball fans to have no games to watch in 2020, but it would probably help the Boston Red Sox.
