The Boston Celtics appear to have a quality player in their system as Tremont Waters was named the 2019-20 G League MVP.

The Boston Celtics have been hit or miss when it comes to the draft. For every Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, there is a James Young or R.J. Hunter. It seems that Boston has done rather well with its most recent draft class.

It seems as though Romeo Langford could become a real contributor for the team. He didn’t get to play for the team a lot due to injury, but with the skills he showed on the court he has a lot of potential.

There is also Grant Williams. Williams got the most playing time and showed that he could help out on the 2nd unit. He is a quality defender but is lacking in the scoring department.

Boston even picked up an undrafted free agent who quickly became a fan favorite. Tacko Fall got some playing time and showed he could be a force in the paint on offense and defense.

One player who seemed to get lost in the shuffle was Tremont Waters.

Waters only appeared in 10 games with the Celtics. In those games, his numbers weren’t that special.

But Waters spent most of his time down in the G League and he showed what he was made of. Waters averaged 18 points and 7.3 assists a game. That was enough for Waters to be named the G League Rookie of the Year

Now it’s important to note that this was in only 36 games and Waters was a key player for the team. Waters showed that he has great shooting ability which makes his future with the Celtics interesting.

It will be interesting to see if the Celtics use Waters in the new playoff format. The NBA has expanded rosters and it seems like Fall and Waters could land a roster spot. Waters would be able to show off his skill to a national audience.

Looking ahead to the future I don’t think Waters will be in Maine next season. It’s likely that we see him fight for a spot in the rotation next season.

Next. Bill Russell is truly amazing. dark

So it looks like the Celtics have a great prospect in their system.
