With six players opting out of the 2020 season, New England Patriots fans are wondering if they are tanking for Trevor Lawrence. The answer is no.

Dont’a Hightower and Marcus Cannon are among the players who will be opting out of the 2020 season. Then we found out that Patrick Chung was opting out of the season. New England’s defense is in a rough spot.

This news doesn’t get fans excited about the 2020 season. This could be a rough season for New England.

So of course, Patriots fans are trying to make sense of the decisions and spin it into a positive. Some are even thinking that Bill Belichick has an ulterior motive.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated even tweeted out a text message that he got wondering if the Patriots were tanking for Trevor Lawrence.

Now Lawrence is a great quarterback there is no doubt. He is the clear No.1 QB in the 2021 Draft class.

But there is no way that New England can tank for him. It’s just not possible.

The AFC East is a battle between the Bills and the Patriots. Now that Jamal Adams is on the Seahawks the Patriots schedule got a lot easier. Also even though there is a lot of hype over Tua Tagovailoa it’s time to pump the brakes on the Dolphins challenging for the AFC East.

Even if the Patriots struggle, they won’t be in a position to get the No.1 pick. The fact that they are in the AFC East ensures that this won’t happen.

So even though the Patriots have a chance to struggle a lot in 2020, there is no way that they end up with  Lawrence.
