New England Patriots: Cam Newton deserves more reps
By Sam Minton
The New England Patriots practiced for the first time in front of the media and Cam Newton continued to be at the bottom when it came to QB reps, that needs to change.
Monday was a big day for the New England Patriots. It was their first padded practice and also the first time that the media was allowed in the stands.
It was great to get some sort of normalcy back. Reporters were tweeting away with their first impressions of the players.

One of the players who will be under the biggest microscope is Cam Newton. He is expected to take over and be New England’s top quarterback in 2020.
But the team doesn’t seem to be treating him as such. When it comes to quarterback reps, Newton is at the bottom. New England appears to be basing the order on reps by experience (in New England).
That’s why Brian Hoyer is leading the group. To the Hoyer fanatics, I got some bad news for you, there is no way he starts. If he does, this season is going to be a long one.
Newton appears to look great in camp and is also showing that he is ready to lead the team. He is being vocal and bringing the energy that the team needs.
Now it’s understandable that the Patriots are still to get in a rhythm and get all their QB’s ready for the start of the season. But at some point, they need to make a decision.
If Newton continues to stay healthy he will be the starter. It’s rather unlikely that Jarrett Stidham is better than a former NFL MVP. If that’s the case, the Patriots are in the most beautiful predicament.
Newton has the experience, he knows what it takes to get to the Super Bowl. With Bill Belichick coaching him up, the sky is the limit.
So the Patriots need to start treating Cam like he is their starter. If they want him to be properly prepared to run the offense in Week One, they need to give the lion share of reps in practice.
