On Monday night, Damien Harris was one of the more impressive players for the New England Patriots.

Monday night wasn’t the best for New England Patriots fans. Brian Hoyer had an infuriating performance and the refs were awful, but there was one bright spot. Damien Harris might be the running back of the future in New England.

Sony Michel was put on Injured Reserve which put a huge wrench into New England’s offensive plans. Michel just had his best game of the season, he ran for 117 yards on just nine carries.

But the Patriots got some reinforcements. Damien Harris was activated off of the IR and got the start, he didn’t disappoint.

Harris was able to run for over 100 yards in his debut game. That is quite an introduction to Patriots fans.

With Michel injured, it looks like Harris will get the majority of the carries. He is definitley deserving of the honor.

It’s not just the stats though. Harris is exciting to watch. He knows how to run downfield and operate between the hash marks.

But fans still saw Harris’ speed. He broke out for a nice 41 yard rush against KC and showed how he can escape from defenders.

Patriots fans should be excited about his performance. He’s a much more exciting back compared to Michel and seems like he should be able to gain yards at a better rate.

Looking forward, the Patriots should see how far they can go with Harris. If he keeps gaining yards like this there is no reason to give up on him even when Michel is healthy.

On Monday night, Harris averaged 5.9 yards a carry. In the first two weeks of the season, Michel was averaging close to three yards a carry. That doesn’t lead to a successful running game.

So Patriots fans should be happy with what they saw from Harris. He could be the running back that New England has been desperately searching for. If the Patriots can have a balanced offense when Cam Newton comes back, they will be tough to beat.

One of the only bright spots on Monday night was the play of Harris. Hopefully, it’s the start of a successful career in New England.
