Boston Celtics: Jaylen Brown could be Boston’s second superstar
By Sam Minton
A lot of the focus goes to Jayson Tatum, but the Boston Celtics might have another superstar in Jaylen Brown.
After a difficult start to the season with some big losses to teams like the Brooklyn Nets, the Boston Celtics have bounced back. They are playing some great basketball and one of the reasons is the play of Jaylen Brown.
Brown is often overlooked due to Jayson Tatum’s rising status. He is quickly becoming one of the best players in the entire league so Tatum is rightfully getting a lot of praise in Boston.

But Brown is also a great player in his own right. He showed how talented he is on Wednesday when he dominated the Memphis Grizzlies as the C’s blew the team out of the water 126-107.
Brown had a career night. He scored 42 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Those are numbers that any player would dream of.
What was most impressive from Brown was his shooting numbers. Brown shot 70 percent from behind the three-point line.
Brown has always been a great athletic player, but his shooting has needed improvement. If he wants to be a truly great player he needs to be a great shooter. That’s why his performance on Wednesday night is so exciting.
Having a player like Brown to supplement Tatum is quite the luxury. It allows for the Celtics to have a backup plan in case Tatum has a bad night which is especially important with Kemba Walker on the sidelines.
The question is can Brown continue to do this. He won’t score 40 points every night, but if he can continue to shoot for a high percentage, that would show just how much he improved. Defenders won’t be able to take a break when he operates on the perimeter and this could open up opportunities for Brown to drive to the rim.
Last season, Brown arguably took a bigger step than Tatum. He averaged 20 points a game for the season which was a first for the two-guard. It was stunning to see him miss the All-Star team, but it motivated him for the rest of the year. This season it seems like Brown is well on his way to an All-Star nod.
So if Brown continues to play as he did on Wednesday night, Boston could have not just two young stars on the roster, they could have two superstars on the roster. If that becomes true, the Celtics could be raising a championship banner in TD Garden relatively soon.
