By Sam Minton
With the 2021 NFL Draft all that New England Patriots fans have to look forward to, let’s take a look at one of the QB prospects on the Pats radar.
Well, the 2020 regular season just ending for the New England Patriots, fans can finally put this season in the rearview mirror. It’s time to forget one of the worst seasons in two decades. They desperately need to find their quarterback of the future.
In this draft class, there are plenty of names. Of course, there are the big names like Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields, but there are also the likes of Zach Wilson and many others.

Someone who has been making his way onto the Patriots radar is Mac Jones. The Alabama QB seems like exactly the guy that Bill Belichick would draft.
Jones was one of the best quarterbacks in college football in 2020. He threw for over 4,000 yards and 36 touchdowns while only throwing four interceptions.
In the last game for the Crimson Tide, he threw for nearly 300 yards and four touchdowns against Notre Dame and has a chance to win a National Championship.
Jones has that football I.Q. that Belichick loves. He doesn’t have the best deep ball arm strength but is able to make those key short-yardage passes. While he isn’t Cam Newton, he can escape pressure in the pocket.
The thing is that Jones would need a solid line in front of him. With the Patriots appearing to be starting a rebuild, Jones would possibly have to work some more magic than he is used to.
But Jones has all the intangibles that the Patriots are looking for in a QB. He is someone who could start right away.
It also can’t be discounted that Jones went to college in Alabama. Nick Saban and Belichick are BFF’s. If Saban tells Belichick that he is worth the pick, it’s almost a guarantee that the Patriots will select Jones.
Also with the Patriots getting the 15th overall pick, Jones would most likely be their best option. If they wanted to move up and get someone like Wilson or Fields they would need to give away some serious talent.
So don’t be surprised if New England ends up selecting Jones. With Saban and Belichick’s relationship, it makes too much sense.
