New England Patriots: Matthew Stafford off table, time for plan B
The New England Patriots did not get Matthew Stafford. Some say the Lions couldn’t reach an agreement with the Patriots, and others say it is because Stafford didn’t want to go to New England.
Stafford was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for Jared Goff and 1st round picks. Is the Patriots hunt for a quarterback over? Or is it time to move onto plan B?

Plan B for the New England Patriots
Plan B will be focused on finding another quarterback option. There are so many guys still available. Many quarterbacks are still looking for a new home, and the Patriots still have a wide range of options, and assets.
Of course, the New England Patriots are still in the conversation for other quarterbacks. As it may be known by now, Deshaun Watson is now on the trading block as he is looking for a way out of Houston.
New England has the chance with many assets on offense and defense who would look favorable for the Houston Texans. To get Watson, the Patriots need to send the “house”. The “house” would be a large package full of talented players with a few draft picks added into the mix. Though the package for Watson may be large, it would be worth it.
Other quarterbacks on the market right now include 49ers quarterback, and former Patriot, Jimmy Garoppolo. The San Francisco 49ers are looking to find a new quarterback.
It is known that Jimmy G is not at the same tier as Watson or Stafford, but he is still a good choice. Not only is he a fairly accurate quarterback, but he also has the ability to use his legs.
Arguably one of the biggest upsides to having Garoppolo in the conversation is that he knows the system. Jimmy G is a former Patriots’ backup who was privileged to start a few games when Tom Brady was suspended during “Deflategate”.
Another quarterback surrounded by uncertainty is Carson Wentz. He has been the starter in Philadelphia for a few years, but it seems as though the Eagles are looking to ship him out and give young quarterback, Jalen Hurts, the starting job.
Wentz is a good player. He has played in many different instances and situations. He has had MVP-caliber seasons, but also seasons plagued with injuries. If the Patriots could get some receiving assets to play alongside Wentz, we could see a big threat in Foxboro.
Plan C: The New England Patriots have the 15th pick of the draft
Though there are many possibilities for the New England Patriots to trade, or sign, a current quarterback in the NFL, it is not certain one comes to Foxboro. If all else fails, there are plenty of quarterbacks available in the draft.
From guys like Mac Jones to Zach Wilson, or even Justin Fields, there is an endless list of possibilities for the New England Patriots.
Even if the Pats get a quarterback through a trade or free agent signing, the New England Patriots could use that 15th overall pick on a skill player such as a tight end or wide receiver.
If New England doesn’t pick a quarterback don’t be surprised if Florida tight end, Kyle Pitts is picked. Fans just need to sit back, try to relax, and watch the offseason play out.
