New England Patriots rumors: Why Jimmy Garoppolo is best plan for 2021

It seems that the New England Patriots have decided on a plan for who will be under center in 2021. The Pats appear to be going all-in on Jimmy Garoppolo.

For a while, it has been unknown what New England was thinking when it came to the quarterback position in 2021. The Patriots continued to get linked to essentially every quarterback that was available and there is still the 2021 NFL Draft.

But now it appears that New England will be looking for a familiar face to get the job done. Is it time for the man known as Jimmy G to come back to Gillette Stadium?

According to Greg Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal, Garoppolo is New England’s priority.

It makes sense why that would be the case. Just a few seasons ago, Garoppolo was in the Super Bowl.

In 2019, Garoppolo threw for nearly 4,000 yards and 27 touchdowns. sadly he was just unable to perform well enough to defeat Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in the big game.

So is Jimmy G the right man for the job?

Frankly compared to all the options out there (besides Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson), Garoppolo appears to be the best option. He should be able to succeed with the roster that New England currently has and could help mentor a new draft pick.

The familiarity between Garoppolo and Bill Belichick should help him succeed right away. He is familiar with New England’s offense and Josh McDaniels would make Jimmy G an even better QB.

While it’s hard to believe that Garoppolo will make the Patriots a Super Bowl contender, he would likely improve New England’s record in 2021. Maybe they will even find themselves in the playoffs.

Also, there is no doubt that Belichick would relish the opportunity to show the world what he can do with Garoppolo. It’s well known how much the head coach loved Jimmy G and he is likely doing all he can to get him to New England.

Also, the acquisition of Garoppolo would still allow for New England to draft a QB in the draft.

The Patriots have plenty of cap space so they can afford Garoppolo’s massive deal, in turn saving the 49ers a lot of money. Also, they could use Stephon Gilmore and a mid-round pick instead of having to give up a first rounder.

This would still ensure that New England can sit back and wait for Mac Jones, or move up for a guy like Trey Lance.

If Belichick and New England don’t pull the trigger on a deal with Jimmy G, 2021 could be another long season for Patriots fans. After all this success could they even handle missing the playoffs two years in a row?

Garoppolo can rejuvenate the organization and get the New England Patriots back on track. Acquiring him seems like a no-brainer at this point. Patriots fans should be itching for him to come back to Gillette Stadium.
