Bruce Cassidy gave an update on the Boston Bruins as fans wait to see if they play on Thursday. One little tidbit from his press conference should have fans worried about Ondrej Kase.

Kase has not had an amazing career in Boston. He has struggled to stay on the ice and when he does he struggles to score. He simply hasn’t been the player that Boston expected when they traded for him.

More from Chowder and Champions

Since coming to Boston during the 2019-20 season, Kase has only played in 19 games. He has yet to score a goal and only has five total assists.

Kase was supposed to be the winger that finally took David Krejci over the top but that hasn’t been the case. While he has played well in spurts he just can’t stay healthy.

Bruins fans haven’t seen Kase play for a while. The winger has been out of commission since the beginning of the year. He has only played in two games this year.

But the latest update on Kase is concerning. It looks like he won’t be returning this season.

Why the Boston Bruins need to move on from Ondrej Kase.

It really seems like now is the time for Boston to move on from Kase. As much as fans want him to succeed, it just doesn’t seem to be in the cards for the Bruins.

At the end of the season, Kase will become a restricted free agent. While Boston would have an advantage if they wanted to sign him, they should stay far away from him.

Kase has never been able to find his groove while in Boston. His spot on the roster is better used on one of the younger players.

This season we have seen players such as Trent Frederic and Jack Studnicka have some impressive performances. They are the future of the roster.

After the 2021 season, Boston could see a lot of changes. With Krejci also having his contract expire at the end of the season it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the center play for a different team next year.

The Bruins will need to get younger in the coming years. This means trusting players like Frederic and Studnicka whole letting players such as Krejci and Kase go.

So it seems as though Kase might have played his final game for the Bruins. While plenty of fans in Boston will describe his acquisition as a bust, his career with the Bruins is better described by asking what if?

What if Kase had been able to score? What if he was able to stay healthy?

But there’s no question that the Boston Bruins would be better off letting Kase walk at the end of the season. As they begin to change the makeup of their roster, this decision is something that they simply need to do.
