Boston Bruins: How the NHL can fix their Tom Wilson problem
By Sam Minton
Once again, the Boston Bruins were the victim of a dirty hit from Tom Wilson. The NHL has to wonder if they need to prove a point and ensure that Wilson changes his ways. If not someone could end up seriously injured.
Bruins fans already had to watch Wilson drive Brandon Carlo’s head into the boards. He was forced to miss a serious amount of time and after returning for a few games he is once again out of the lineup.

On Sunday, the Bruins once again saw Wilson take advantage of one of their players. Sean Kuraly was skating towards the middle of the Caps zone and Wilson lined him up for a headshot.
Kuraly would leave the ice, but thankfully he returned later in the game. Once again no penalty was called on Wilson.
The entire game was filled with dirty hits from Washington. Alex Ovechkin had such a bad hit that it overshadowed Wilson’s and Garnet Hathaway was given a game misconduct for his hit on Jarred Tinordi.
There is the fact that Kuraly was falling down, but it’s hard to give Wilson the benefit of the doubt. His reputation has ensured that he won’t have fans trying to understand where he is coming from.
The NHL has a Tom Wilson problem and they need to fix it.
After two dirty hits against the Boston Bruins, how can the NHL fix their Tom Wilson problem?
At this point, the NHL needs to make a statement. They need to let him know that Wilson can’t continue with his antics.
Before I get to the solution, I want to talk about what is not the solution. The Bruins can not go headhunting and try to injure Wilson or his teammates. Veteran Bruins writer Kevin Paul Dupont suggested this and it was stunning that he decided to hit send on this tweet.
Injuring teammates won’t do anything but perpetuate Wilson’s mentality. The NHL needs to take a stand.
The NHL needs to suspend Wilson for a significant amount of time. This isn’t 10 or even 20 games. The league needs to suspend him for a season or even longer. That will be the only way that Wilson cleans up his act.
By suspending him for this long you take what he loves the most (the game of hockey) away from him. There’s also the fact that Wilson would lose a significant amount of money.
So the NHL has a decision to make. Will they try and stop Wilson from injuring opponents or will they just let him run wild.
