The New England Patriots need to make a pick for the future. Lamar Jackson could put the Patriots in the right direction.

Everyone agrees that the New England Patriots need a quarterback. The only thing that people can’t agree on is who should it be. Baker Mayfield? Mason Rudolph? Kyle Lauletta? Maybe even Johnny Manziel?

The one guy who isn’t on that list seems to have caught the attention of the Patriots. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Patriots are “intrigued and impressed” with the quarterback out of Louisville.

The Patriots have seen that they can succeed with a mobile quarterback. In his short time with the Pats, Jacoby Brissett had some success and now he is starting for the Indianapolis Colts.

More from Chowder and Champions

Jackson won the Heisman Trophy in 2016 when he threw for over 3,500 yards and 30 touchdowns. Jackson also ran for over 1,500 yards that season and had 21 touchdowns.

If you give Jackson some time to study under Tom Brady, Josh McDaniels, and Bill Belichick he will become a starter in this league. Jackson has a good enough arm to be successful in the NFL. The Patriots can keep their offense as it is, we will just see Jackson run a bit more than Brady.

The opportunity to have a dual-threat quarterback is one that the Patriots should jump on. Jackson will be a good if not great quarterback in the NFL. He will fall to the Patriots so they wouldn’t have to worry about trading picks to move up.

Jackson’s skills allow him to fit the Patriots current offense as well as improve on it. We have seen the success of Deshaun Watson. The Patriots need to plan for the future and Lamar Jackson will lead them in the right direction.
